What is Device Stage Visual Editor?

Device Stage Visual Editor

Device Stage Visual Editor is a fantastic tool designed for device manufacturers and software developers. It creates a friendly workspace that helps you think of new ways to interact with devices connected to your computer. The best part? It considers branding, features, and everything else that comes with the device.

Easy Setup for Everyone

Getting started with this tool is super simple! Just remember to have .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your system. When you open the application, you’ll see a clear window waiting for you to dive in by loading a device's metadata file (that’s the .devicemetadata-ms format). There are even some sample files already in the installed directory to help you kick things off!

Navigating Tasks Made Simple

The user interface has a handy tree view that lists all the tasks available for each device. You can easily expand this tree and explore all its options. Plus, creating new nodes is straightforward—just add details like description, display name, icon, and ID.

Create New Tasks Effortlessly

When you're building new tasks as nodes, you'll have options like setting command lines, descriptions, display names, icons (using ICO file types), IDs, issue times (check the calendar!), ranks, and requirements (raw XML code). You also get to decide if it needs admin rights and what type of task it will be—like ShellExecute or HostedSite.

View and Configure Device Settings

The main window’s largest pane lets you see and adjust various device settings such as audio controls, Bluetooth connections, infrared settings, modem options, network connections, biometric features, display settings, keyboard preferences, mouse controls, and sensors.

Additional Features at Your Fingertips

You can grab the hardware ID for your device or create a GUID easily! If needed, test mode is available (but it requires a system reboot). You can also import/export locale resources using model or hardware IDs in Excel format or save your project so you can pick up where you left off later.

User-Friendly Experience

From our evaluation of Device Stage Visual Editor, we found that it didn't freeze or crash at all. It only uses a small amount of system resources while running low on CPU and RAM usage. Thanks to its intuitive GUI and smart options, this tool should be really helpful for anyone involved in manufacturing devices!
