So, desktopPet is like a fun throwback for anyone who remembers eSheep or the Stray Sheep app from way back in 1995. Created by Tatsutoshi Nomura, this little gem used to bring adorable pet sheep right to your computer's desktop.
This old-school app was actually a 16-bit deal, which meant if you were using anything newer than Windows XP, you were out of luck with those virtual sheep. But guess what? If you're running Windows 7 or even the latest Windows 10, you're in for a treat!
Thanks to an open-source version of the original app called desktopPet, you can now have loads of funny (and maybe even annoying) sheep on your desktop! And the best part? You don’t need any special requirements to get started. You can install it or just run it directly from its executable file—just like a portable app.
The first thing you'll notice is how desktopPet works with your taskbar. If you right-click its icon, you can add more sheep, check out the Options menu, and even install the application if you haven’t yet.
If you're already familiar with eSheep, then you're good to go! But if this is your first time trying out this app, here’s what you need to know: You can host up to 16 cute little sheep on your desktop! They can walk around and even stroll across any Explorer window. Some might munch on flowers or take a dive into a bathtub—you never know what they'll do!
You can also tweak things in the Options section. Want more pets? Go for it! You can enable or disable sounds and choose how many sheep are part of your flock.
If your computer's looking a bit dull and you're into having up to 16 tiny sheep doing funny stuff (yes, they might even be abducted by aliens), then desktopPet is definitely worth checking out!
