What is DeepGit?

DeepGit

DeepGit is a handy tool for anyone working with Git repositories. It helps you dig into commits and their content, so you can track down where specific pieces of code came from. This is super useful for Git users since it makes it easier to follow the changes in your project.

Easy to Use

Getting started with DeepGit isn’t too tough! Just remember that you can’t connect it directly to an online Git repository. You’ll need to use Git first to clone the repository and create a local copy. Once you have that, you're good to go!

Analyze Your Code

With DeepGit, you can look at one file in your repo at a time. The first panel shows the file along with its related commits. When you click on a commit, it opens up in the Blame view. Here, you can see all the changes made and contributions from everyone involved in the project. This includes everything from resources and developer tools to icons and licenses.

Tracking Code Origins

A cool feature of DeepGit is its ability to trace back lines of code and find out which commit introduced them. In the 'Origin candidates' section, you'll see possible origins for your code snippet. If those lines were created in the blamed commit, you'll know right away; if not, it’ll show 'No change'.

Dive Deeper with Origin View

The selected origin candidate gets more attention in the Origin View. You can check out the commit details where changes are highlighted by DeepGit—this makes spotting them quick and easy! After confirming that you've found the right origin, you can keep digging deeper if needed.

A Must-Have Tool for Developers

If you're serious about your projects and want to keep everything running smoothly, DeepGit is definitely worth considering. It’s a great way for Git users to find out exactly where their code lines come from.
