The Story Behind Darwine

The main idea behind the Darwine project was to create a version of Wine that works on macOS. Initially, it supported both PowerPC (PPC) and Intel x86 systems. But here's the catch: support for PPC is no longer happening since Apple has moved everything over to x86.

Running Windows Apps on Older Macs

This tool includes QEMU, which is a processor emulator. This allows you to run Windows executable files even on older PowerPC Macs. Without this, older Macs wouldn’t be able to handle x86 code from AMD or Intel processors.

Even though Darwine is not being developed separately anymore, you can still use it easily to set up Wine on your Mac. It’s perfect if you want to run those classic Windows apps on older PPC Macs.
