Description

D2nc is an application that can prove useful if you’re working with CNC machines. Basically, if you want to make something, like part of a wood or metal DYI project, the program can turn your design into G-code that the CNC machine can understand and follow.

In case you’ve been using a newer CNC machine software before, working with this tool may be a little harder at first. One thing you’re likely going to miss is the drag and drop functionality, which this app doesn’t support. You can get started by loading a DXF file or you can create a custom design by writing code.
If you’re familiar with coding, using the program should feel straightforward and you get absolute control over the design. You can add various shapes, tool paths and other aspects manually, so there are more options and steps to go through.

The program comes with several pre-built elements that you can access from the Tools menu and that include a few shapes you’re likely to use when working on both word and metals projects. For instance, the DRILL – Hole Array option could be helpful if you’re working on a project that needs several evenly spaced holes.

It’s worth mentioning that the application relies on Shape Description Language (SDL), which is more suitable for older CNC machines that lack the advanced software support found in newer models. Modern machines work mostly with CAD now and hence, can automatically generate the G-code and are easier to use.

D2nc can come in handy if you have one of the older CNC machine models and this is why the developer mentions that it’s more suitable for hobbyist and people who prefer small, DYI small-scale projects.
