Description
Cutline
Cutline is a free and super easy-to-use Adobe Photoshop plug-in that works wonders on continuous tone grayscale images. If you're working with photos or illustrations that have gradient blends, you're in for a treat!
What Are Cutline Screens?
So, what’s the deal with Cutline screens? They combine line and dot screens to create some pretty cool effects. A typical line screen shows gray tones by changing the thickness of black lines against a white background.
The Magic of Cutline Screens
Now, here’s where it gets interesting: in the Cutline screen, as those lines get thicker, they start to show these “cuts” at angles. This makes the lines break into dots! It gives your images that charming old-world engraving or woodcut feel.
Different Types of Cutlines
The Cutline Photoshop plug-in comes packed with four unique screens designed for creating engraved and woodcut effects:
- Cutlines: These are simple straight lines set at a fixed 13-degree angle. They give your images a precise and mechanical look.
- Wavy Cutlines: Similar to the straight ones but wavy! Also set at 13 degrees, these can soften your images a bit and bring out some contours and depth.
- Elliptical Cutlines: Picture concentric ellipses! You can use the Stamper Tool along with angle and curvature sliders to place curved lines strategically. This is perfect for smooth surfaces!
- Wavy Ellipses: These are just like elliptical cutlines but wavier! They invite you to experiment with placement using the Stamper Tool too. It might take some trial and error, but trust me; it’s worth it!
