Cryptocurrency prices are notoriously volatile, and it can be difficult to find apps that let you monitor various coins from your desktop. There are plenty of web services that do the job, but you might not want to keep a browser tab open just for this task.

Crypto Bar is an Electron and React based application that grabs information from CryptoCompare, a popular web-based price monitor, and allows you to track them from your menu bar. It is very easy to use, as well as unobtrusive.

The screenshots really tell the whole story. The app is only visible in your menu bar, and the current price of the selected cryptocurrency is displayed at all times. Multiple currencies can be monitored at once, but only one can be shown in the menu bar.

Prices are updated in real-time, so you won’t need to refresh anything manually. The coin’s icon is also displayed, just in case you forget which of them you are currently monitoring.

Every coin tracked by CryptoCompare is also available in Crypto Bar. Of course, their prices can also be converted to most popular national currencies, as well as other cryptos.

After adding a new pairing, it will be available in the dashboard. If you want it to be displayed in the menu bar, simply click it. The dashboard is also a good way to quickly check the prices of currencies that aren’t visible in the menu bar.

There really isn’t much else to say about Crypto Bar, as you can figure out what it does and how it works in just a few seconds. It is easy to configure, and it’s a great way to monitor prices without using a web browser.

However, if there is one feature it lacks, it’s an optional dark theme for Mojave users. While the UI looks nice, it is very bright, and it’s going to stand out if you’re using the macOS Dark mode.
