CoolTerm is a straightforward yet powerful app for Mac users. Built using REALBasic, it offers a clean user interface that's perfect for transferring data between your computer and various hardware devices connected through serial ports.

Getting Started with CoolTerm

To kick things off with CoolTerm, you first need to head over to the Connection Options window. Here, you'll make some adjustments for the Serial Port, Terminal, Transmission, and Receive options. This step is crucial because it lets you pick the serial port you want to use for your communication.

Sending Commands Made Easy

If everything connects properly, you're ready to type in the commands you wish to send to your hardware device right in the main window of the app.

Receiving Data in Style

The same area will show the data you've received in hexadecimal format. Plus, if you're into keeping track of everything, you can log all communication details!

Viewing Data Formats: HEX or ASCII

With CoolTerm, you can choose how you'd like to see what's being transmitted between your Mac and the hardware device—either in HEX or ASCII mode. Using HEX is especially handy for messages that don't fit into plain text.

Autoscroll Feature for Convenience

A cool feature of CoolTerm is its Autoscroll. When this is turned on, it will automatically scroll down so you can see the latest data coming in without lifting a finger! And down at the bottom right corner of the main window, there are little LED buttons showing different serial port signals.
