Compute for Humanity is a cool open-source project that lets you use your computer's extra processing power to support different charities. How awesome is that?
This app runs in the background on your Mac and helps generate cryptocurrency. Don't worry, it automatically converts this crypto into US dollars, which gets sent to the charity you pick!
The best part? You don’t have to mess with any complicated settings! Just launch the app, and it takes care of everything. It uses a tiny bit of your Mac’s processing power to solve math problems and create cryptocurrency.
You’ll love how easy it is to keep track of what’s happening. There’s a simple status bar menu where you can see how much money has been donated and how many sparkling hearts you've earned or given away.
If you need your computer's full power for something else, no problem! You can pause the generator anytime. Or if you're feeling generous, you can let it use more processing power so you rack up those sparkling hearts faster!
And there’s a fun rewards system too! It tracks your achievements, and when you hit 10 awards, just enter your contact info to receive a surprise package in the mail.
You get to choose which organization receives your donations! Options include GlobalGiving, GiveDirectly, Watsi, or Pencil of Promise. It's great knowing where your contributions are going!
Compute for Humanity not only allows you to mine cryptocurrency but also helps donate it using your computer's unused processing power. During our tests on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 6GB RAM, we found that it only needed about 2% of CPU power and around 17MB of RAM.
