Description
Color palettes are not a new concept, despite being heavily associated with modern web/UI design. Color palettes are presented as a combination of HEX codes (codes that basically tell the computer what color needs to be displayed).
When talking about color palettes, probably the most crucial aspect is color harmony. Having a visually pleasing color combination can make or break a product.
Colorway is a minimalist and very good-looking little app that's designed for this specific reason: providing (web) designers with a quick way of generating super satisfying color pairings.
What's really cool is that the app uses the most popular palettes used by UI designers namely Analogous, Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic, and Monochromatic.
Analogous color schemes are more commonly used when no contrast is needed (i.e. banners, or background of web pages), Complementary uses colors that are opposed on the color wheel and are used to create contrast, and Triadic uses three separate colors that are equidistant on the color wheel (useful for UI elements that require a dominant color and two nice accent colors).
Lastly, the Tetradic color palette uses four colors (imagine the shape of a rectangle on the color wheel), and the Monochromatic color palette uses tones and shades of a single color.
As mentioned before, the app is very simple. The GUI is amazingly compact and surprisingly functional. Besides the selection of color palettes/color pairings, the app also displays the HEX code of all colors. The app also boasts a color picker (which is always handy), and two quick "copy colors to clipboard" and "copy colors image to clipboard" options.
I really enjoy using apps such as Colorway. However, because I'm not the most well-versed person in UI design and color combinations, I would have preferred a bit of extra information regarding the types of color palettes. Still, it's a nice little app that works perfectly.
