What is collectd FOR MAC?

collectd

collectd is a handy little tool that collects system performance stats regularly. It also gives you options to store these values in different ways, like in RRD-files. So, if you're curious about how your system is doing, this tool has got your back!

What Does collectd Do?

This software gathers information about the system it’s running on and saves all that useful data. You can use this info to plan for future system loads, which is super helpful for capacity planning. Plus, it can help you spot performance issues right now.

Pretty Graphs Anyone?

If you just want some nice-looking graphs of your private server and are tired of those DIY solutions, you’re in the right place! But keep in mind that while collectd does a lot, it has its limits.

Limitations of collectd

 • No Graph Generation: It can write to RRD-files but won’t generate graphs from them. There’s a small sample script included that might help out, and you could check out drraw, which is a generic solution for graphing from RRD-files.

 • No Monitoring: collectd collects and stores data but doesn’t interpret or act on it. Luckily, there’s a plugin for Nagios that lets you use the data collected by collectd.
