Description

Cloudfogger

Note: The Cloudfogger project has been stopped, and it is no longer available. If you're currently using Cloudfogger, you should re-encrypt your files with a new solution soon, as the developer will turn off the keyservers in the coming weeks.

Why Protect Your Files?

Cloudfogger was one of those apps that helped keep your important documents safe. Since so many people share files over the Internet these days, having a way to protect them is super important. Cloudfogger could encrypt your files so that only you had access to them.

What’s It All About?

Now, don’t get tricked by the name! Even though it sounds like it’s just for cloud storage, Cloudfogger could actually work on any computer setup. It was pretty easy to use too! With a simple design and a guided setup before you got started, you’d be up and running in no time.

How Does It Work?

You’d choose which folders to protect and even pick who could see those encrypted files. You would do this by sending an email to whoever you wanted to share with. But remember: everyone needed to have the app installed on their computers too!

User-Friendly Features

The best part? You hardly had to do anything! The app handled everything quickly once you set your folders. It even added an option in the context menu so you could easily “fog” any file or folder with just a click. Plus, if you copied files into the protected folder, they would automatically get encrypted!

Caution is Key

But here’s a heads-up: if you weren’t careful while using Cloudfogger, things could go south fast! If you moved files around while the app wasn’t running, they might end up unprotected or totally locked away from you. The app only looked at specific paths for directories!

No Cloud Connection Needed

You didn’t need a direct link to your cloud space either—just pick any folder from there to keep things secure. Unfortunately, there wasn’t an easy way to send files directly to protected folders or cloud services while using this tool.

A Quick Wrap-Up

In summary, Cloudfogger was more about encryption than anything else—even if it pretended it was all about clouds! It only used one encryption method without options for changing passwords or algorithms. So always pay attention when handling your important stuff!
