Description
Clorox File Repair
Clorox File Repair (cfr) is a handy tool that helps fix missing resource forks for your Mac graphics files. So, what’s a resource fork? It holds important info like the file type, creator, and even a bitmapped preview of the file. Pretty neat, right?
Why Do Files Lose Their Resource Forks?
You might be wondering why your files lose these resource forks in the first place. Well, it usually happens when you move files between different systems like Windows or UNIX and back to Mac. This can mess things up.
Fixing File Naming Errors
On top of that, Clorox File Repair can also fix some file naming issues. For example, if there are missing or wrong extensions on your files, this tool has got you covered!
How to Use Clorox File Repair
Using cfr is super easy! Just drag any combination of folders and files onto the Clorox File Repair icon. The app will start up right away, and you’ll see a progress window pop up.
Understanding the Progress Bar
The lower progress bar shows how each individual file is being processed. You’ll see some quick updates about what’s happening as it works through each file. Just a heads-up: those messages disappear pretty fast!
Checking Repaired Files
If cfr successfully repairs your files, it leaves a little note in the Finder comments section (you can check this by selecting Get Info at the Finder). But if there are any files it can't recognize or repair? Those will get flagged with a red Finder label.
A Quick Note for Photoshop Users
NOTE: If you’re using Photoshop, make sure to disable its opening help screen first; otherwise, Clorox File Repair might hang up on you.
