Description

ClamSMTP FOR LINUX

ClamSMTP is a nifty SMTP filter that helps you check for viruses using the ClamAV anti-virus software. It’s pretty straightforward and gets the job done without all the fuss.

How ClamSMTP Works

So, here’s how it works: ClamSMTP takes in SMTP connections and sends those commands and responses over to another SMTP server. But before that happens, it intercepts the email body during the 'DATA' stage and scans it for any nasty stuff before forwarding it along.

A Lightweight Solution

This project is all about being lightweight, reliable, and simple. You won’t find a ton of options like you would with bigger software like AMaViS, which is written in PERL and can do almost anything. ClamSMTP is written in C and doesn’t have major dependencies, making it easy to manage.

Setting Up with Postfix

I designed this software with the Postfix mail server in mind. If you're using Postfix, I’ll show you how to set it up as a content filter so you can keep your emails safe.

Network Filtering

Another cool feature? ClamSMTP can also act as a transparent proxy! This means you can filter all of your network's SMTP traffic right at the router level. Pretty handy if you want extra protection!

What’s New in This Release:

  • Support for listening on ports under 1024 has been removed.

  • You can now handle embedded NULLs in email data!

  • No more issues with not listening properly when in daemon mode—those bugs are fixed!

  • Your logs will now properly show empty addresses.

  • This version stops Exchange from sending its odd binary data through the proxy.

  • A bunch of fixes for Solaris too!

  • Email messages won't get rejected anymore when the server is overloaded or runs into errors.
