Description
Did you know that in the "golden" (or just old) days of Hollywood cinema credits were displayed at the beginning of the movies? In today's world, we're all used to skipping both intros and credits alike.
This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not a well-known fact that creating the credits for a movie or TV series requires a lot of effort. Just imagine getting everything right: the layout, the spacing, the font size.
There's no getting around "the pain" of designing film credits. Nevertheless, there are a few things one can do to maximize productivity and one of those things is getting your hands on a specialized app.
Cinecred is one such application, a fully free and open-source app that allows you to create credits. Considering just how much thought has gone into creating Cinecred, as well as the number of features on tap, it's amazing that this app is free.
There are a lot of things that make Cinecred worth your attention if creating film credits with minimal effort is your goal.
For starters, the app allows you to import data from a wide range of spreadsheet editors and apps. It works with formats such as XLS (Microsoft Excel), ODS (OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc), and CSV files. It even works with Google Sheets.
Another surprising fact is the sheer number of tutorials and "tips and tricks" displayed by the app's GUI. As a complete beginner myself, I found them to be a welcome addition.
I also like the fact that I could start entering credits right away and initializing new projects using a bunch of default templates. These templates can, of course, be further customized as I went on with the whole process.
Another great thing about Cinecred is the neat Live Visualization feature. The content is continuously updated via an interactive visual preview. Everything is pretty interactive. All content and changes can be easily reverted.
Cinecred has a few extra interesting features lined up for its users. The app doesn't support just text, but also a wide range of extra media. For instance, you can add logo images or the good ol' blooper video in the credits to make things a bit more entertaining for the audience.
The app is also capable of running with various runtimes (with matching vertical gaps and fractional scroll speeds), as well as exporting your work to a wide range of video formats.
Apart from the GUI (of which I'm not a big fan), there's really nothing I see wrong with Cinecred. It's one of those app that really feels that it shouldn't be free - it's that good.
Sure, it might not be the most "professional" tool for creating movie/film credits out there, but to be honest, I think it's perfect for anyone who's an amateur video creator or videographer.
