Chaos Mash is a really cool app that lets you encrypt your files. It might look simple, but it packs a punch with three security algorithms and 15 mash types for each encryption mode. All you need is a secret password to decrypt your files later on.
The interface is super easy to use! You get this big window that shows all the options available, which makes it easy to check things out before jumping in. It's a good idea to test Chaos Mash with a dummy file first just so you can get the hang of it.
If you want to encrypt a file, it's really straightforward. First, find your file using the file browser. Then, choose where you want to save the new encrypted version and give it a name. Next, type in your password and pick the mash type and method—Method A, Method B, or Blowfish.
Now about those mash types: the higher the number you choose, the stronger your encryption will be! Methods A and B keep your new file the same size as the original. But if you go with Blowfish, it’ll make your file bigger.
When it's time to decrypt a file, just select the encrypted one and pick where you want to save the newly decrypted version. You'll also need to set everything right for key options, mash type, and method.
Oh! And don’t forget about the original file's extension because after encryption, you'll end up with an unknown extension. Unfortunately, Chaos Mash doesn’t track formats when decrypting.
The whole tool comes in one executable file! This means you can save it anywhere on your disk or even on a USB flash drive so that you can run it on any PC without needing to install anything. Plus, there are no DLLs or other components needed!
You might have to remember quite a few details for decryption which could be tricky for some users. But overall, Chaos Mash does its job well and is free for encrypting files! Our tests showed that tasks were completed quickly while using low system resources.
