Description

Computers are great at transforming obscure historical information into a more accessible format, one good example being the Maya calendar. Though occasionally referred to for less-than-scientific predictions, it’s an incredibly interesting piece of history, particularly for astronomers.

Chac allows you to browse this calendar on your Mac, with a number of navigation tools to work with. You can find Maya calendar dates based on the current date, a Long Count, Julian day, distance number, long reckoning, and quite a few more.

The app can also be used to find the next heliacal, cosmical rising, or cosmical setting of Venus, along with the next or last day when a solar or lunar eclipse can or will occur. Moreover, it can identify the dates of solstices and equinoxes and find the day of the week using any number of calendar systems.

To narrow things down, you can use a wide range of correlation constraints, any possible moon numbers, dating, Year Bearer systems, as well as the appearance of the new moon and disappearance of the waning moon.

Results are then drawn as a complete Maya calendar inscription, which can be saved to one of various graphic and document formats.
