Description

CertViewer is a niche application designed to help users view X.509 certificates for applications and other similar types of software. The user is required to drag and drop said certificate over the application's main window. The simplistic interface includes four specific tabs that deal with various aspects of the loaded certificate. The general information is displayed in the Certificate tab, while extras will be divided amongst the Extensions, ASN, and PEM data sections.

Once the certificate file has been loaded, information such as the serial number, public key, time restrictions, and fingerprint can be viewed. This can lead to a better understanding of the authenticity level of the loaded element. The subject name with which the certificate is associated can also be viewed. Certificate policies and CRL distribution points are also sections one can view easily with this program.

Using this application can help one better understand a certain application's authenticity. You can thus check the certificate and understand the involved particularities. This makes it easier to be sure of the software or services you are using. Still, understanding the specifics will require more computer knowledge than that of the average user. The application can be used with drag-and-drop functions, making it even more accessible to any interested user.
