CartoReso is a handy tool designed to help admins map out clients in a network. It gives you an easy-to-understand graphical view of everything going on!
Before you dive in, you'll need a couple of things: WinPcap and Java. Keep in mind, these won't install automatically when you set up the app, so make sure to get them ready!
When you first open CartoReso, the main screen might look pretty empty. Don’t worry! You just need to run a network scan to fill it up with all the info you need.
You can tweak how detailed your scan is. Want to check all the common ports? You got it! Just looking for specific ones? Easy-peasy! There’s even an aggressive scan option that checks every single port.
If you want more control, you can choose specific subnets to check out. Plus, there are options for setting hop limits (that’s basically how long data can stay alive) and how much time your scan can take.
Once everything is done, CartoReso will create a cool map showing all the machines and routers in your network along with their connections. You'll get details like IP addresses, DNS names, and MAC addresses right there in the info pane!
During our tests, we did notice some glitches since CartoReso isn't fully finished yet. But that's pretty normal for projects still being developed.
If you're looking for a tool that can visually represent hosts in your network, CartoReso has potential! With different graph types available, it's great for pinpointing specific machines. Although it should detect what operating system those machines are running, we found it didn't always work as planned during our tests.
