Description
Carbon Model is a simple application that represents the key flows of the ocean's carbon cycle, including fluxes of organic carbon and of CaCO3.
The ocean is represented by a one-dimensional, three box model. The three boxes resolve the ocean vertically into a surface layer (of thickness 100m), a middle layer (between 100 and 500m) and a deep layer (between 500m and 3730m).
Vertical mixing between layers and input/output fluxes of carbon, alkalinity and phosphorus are parametrized, as is ocean-atmosphere CO2 exchange. There is no detailed representation of the carbon in terrestrial vegetation or soils in this model.
