CacheGuard OS NG is here to make your web experience safer and smoother! This software, which was previously known as CacheGuard OS and CacheGuard Appliance, turns your computer into a handy web gateway appliance. It comes packed with features like a firewall (thanks to NAT/PAT and Linux netfilter / iptables) and antimalware protection using ClamAV and c-icap.

One of the cool things about CacheGuard OS NG is its URL filtering capabilities. You can set up blacklists and whitelists using SquidGuard, so you have full control over what content gets through. Plus, it supports web load balancing with tools like Squid and Apache to keep everything running smoothly.

This software isn’t just about security; it’s also about performance! With a built-in web application firewall (modSecurity), HTTP compression (using Apache and ecap), and both forward/reverse proxy support (Squid, Apache), you can expect faster loading times on your favorite sites.

You’ll also find that it includes an SNMP agent (Net-SNMP) for traffic logging, SSL termination with OpenSSL, and even traffic shaping with Linux iproute2/tc. And if you need LDAP authentication, it's got that covered with OpenLDAP!

This OS runs on LFS Linux, so you can install it on either a physical or virtual machine where all your Internet traffic flows through. There’s even a bash script for backup and restore mode! You can configure everything from either a command-line interface or a user-friendly web-based setup.
