Description

Music on physical media may be a thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean subscription-based streaming services are the only alternative. Internet radio stations are plentiful, and they’re almost always free.

Broadcasts gives you a simple way to find, organize, and listen to these radio stations. It’s available for every Apple device and features a UI design almost identical to that of Apple Music, so it’ll look right at home on your desktop.

One of the biggest hurdles in listening to internet radio is actually finding stations. Broadcasts makes that easy, as it lists every available station by country, with a search function to help you identify them by name.

Once you’ve found one, you can save it to a collection for easy access. You can create multiple collections, which is great for organizing music by genre or mood.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the app is almost a perfect copy of Apple Music in terms of UI design, and that’s certainly not a bad thing. It looks great, it’s easy to navigate, and it doesn’t stand out.

Aside from the main UI, you also have a mini player, which displays album art and song names, along with a set of basic playback controls. From here, you can also change stations, start a sleep timer, stream audio to other devices, or even turn on Shazam music recognition.

If you’ve been sucked into the complete Apple ecosystem, Broadcasts is the perfect choice. It has apps for every device, and it fully supports AirPlay and Handoff for easy streaming and transition.

This is probably the best app out there for streaming internet radio. The one downside is that it isn’t completely free, but you can still save five stations without paying, and even the upgrade is an affordable one-time purchase.
