Description

BlueSense

BlueSense is a handy little tool that hangs out in your status bar, keeping an eye on your Bluetooth connection to mobile devices. What’s cool is it can trigger custom AppleScripts whenever you lose the signal or when the device pops back up again!

Getting Started with BlueSense

As soon as you install BlueSense, it drops a menulet into your status bar. From there, you’ll want to click on it and choose the Bluetooth device you want to keep tabs on. Just make sure that Bluetooth is turned on for both devices!

Monitoring Your Bluetooth Signal

Once you've set that up, BlueSense will start watching the Bluetooth signal for you. You’ll see a nice graphic in the main panel of the app that shows how strong your signal is. Plus, there’s a bar graph so you can easily adjust how sensitive the detection is by dragging and dropping.

Selecting Your Scripts

The next fun part? Head over to the BlueSense Scripts panel! Here, you can pick which AppleScripts should run automatically when the signal drops or when your device comes back into range. Just browse through your Scripts folder and select what you want to use.

Sample Scripts and Customization

You might also want to check out some sample scripts available on their developer's website. You can download them and move them where they need to go on your computer.

If you're feeling creative, there's also guidance on how to create your own custom scripts. This way, BlueSense can help automate loads of actions beyond just keeping your desktop secure!

The Bottom Line

In short, BlueSense does a great job of tracking Bluetooth signal strength and can automatically run whatever AppleScripts you choose.

A Note on Performance

A little heads-up: during our testing with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac (with 6GB RAM running El Capitan), we noticed that sometimes BlueSense could use about 90% of CPU power and might lose connection even if the paired device was right next door.
