Description

BitTorrent

BitTorrent is an open-source application that makes downloading torrent files super easy. It’s a P2P (Peer-to-peer) client designed for older Linux distributions.

Easy to Use Torrent Client

This application is really user-friendly! You can start downloading torrents right away. All you need to do is click on or download .torrent files and drop them into the main window of the client.

Key Features of BitTorrent

Some cool features include:

  • Control over upload and download speeds

  • Automatic port mapping with UPnP

  • The ability to associate torrent files directly with the app

  • Starting up with Linux automatically

  • Integration with the system tray

  • Support for multiple languages!

Torrent Details at Your Fingertips

You can see detailed info about each torrent, like total peers, swarm speed, tracker details, and even how much time is left before your download finishes!

User-Friendly Interface

The interface is simple and familiar. It takes inspiration from popular clients like uTorrent. You can easily add new torrents, start or pause downloads, remove active torrents, and open the folder where your downloaded files are stored.

A Look Under the Hood

This software is built using Python, with a graphical interface made using GTK+. This makes it work well across different operating systems like GNU/Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.

No Longer Maintained?

The downside? BitTorrent hasn’t been updated since 2009! While it works great on older systems, it was made with Python 2.7 and uses some outdated packages. It might not run smoothly on newer Linux systems anymore.

Alternatives for Linux Users

If you're looking for a solid torrent client that’s still getting updates, check out Transmission, Deluge, KTorrent, QTorrent, or qBittorrent. These are all available for download from Softpedia!
