Description

Barcodes are one of those small things that we don't really (generally) care about in our day to day.

Barcodes have tons of uses, from their usage in retail stores and shops to their use in warehouses to keep track of inventory, tracking packages over mail or other delivery services, storing basic information, and even storing cryptocurrency.

Creating barcodes is usually done using specialized apps and services, but there are tons of free (or "free-ish") online services that can help as well.

Barcoder is one such tool, a barcode creator for Linux. It's a free and open-source app that's mostly designed for GNOME but can work on other distributions (with other desktop environments) through Flathub.

There's nothing really complex about this app. To create a barcode, you simply launch the app, enter the value(s) in the designated field (at the top), choose the barcode type (subset), and that's it.

Apart from the keyboard shortcut section, there's nothing else to this app. Just a simple main window with one text entry, a barcode selection menu, and a Save button.

Once the text entry and the barcode type is selected, the application provides a simple preview of the created barcode.

The application comes with support for various barcode standards as follows: EAN-13, EAN-8, CODE-128, CODE-93, CODE-39, UPC-E, and UPC-A.

Barcoder is a WYSIWYG-type of application, and it's all about simplicity and efficiency. It's no professional barcode creator, but it gets the job done.

If there's one thing I would have liked to see on this app, is the option to also create QR codes (but there are tons of apps that do just that) with the possibility of adding logos in the mix.  However, there's no getting around the fact that when compared to most online barcode generators, Barcoder falls a bit short, as it only provides support for a few barcode formats.
