Description
BabelMap is a free tool that allows you to view and copy any character from any font or Unicode character set. In simple terms, it acts like a character map, but with much more powerful features.
You can find symbols, letters, and characters from different languages, historical scripts, and even emoji, and easily copy them for use in documents, websites, or anywhere else you need them.
The interface might seem busy at first, but it's actually easy to use once you get familiar with it. You can explore the whole Unicode library, browsing by block or character, and use different filters to make it easier to find what you need.
The tool organizes Unicode characters into different sections, dubbed planes, each containing a range of characters. These planes are labeled with names like BMP (Basic Multilingual Plane) and others, which refer to different sets of characters. You can switch between these sections easily using tabs.
Once you find the character you require, you can copy it directly to clipboard or other apps that support Unicode. The program enables you to display all characters in a single font, or you can define a composite font, depending on your project.
In languages like Arabic, the form of a letter can change depending on whether it's at the beginning, middle, or end of a word, or whether it stands alone. In this case, rendering ensures that the text appears correctly by adjusting the characters based on factors like script direction and character shaping.
For this and similar situations, BabelMap includes two rendering modes, namely Glyph and Text. Glyph mode is more basic and shows characters simply, while Text mode tries to display them as they would appear in actual text, with proper script behavior
