AVIDemo is designed for a small group of developers and programmers who want to explore what the AVIOutputStream class can do. This software makes it really easy and quick to get started!
The AVIOutputStream class provides essential low-level support for writing encoded audio and video samples into AVI 1.0 container files. While a regular AVI 1.0 file can't exceed one gigabyte, this class stretches that limit up to four gigabytes. Just keep in mind that not all devices will play these generated AVI files perfectly.
When you run AVIDemo, it comes packed in a JAR file that creates three different sample AVI files from the same movie clip: RAW, RLE8, and JPG. The RAW file is the biggest at 14.60 megabytes, while the other two are much lighter at just 43.5 kilobytes and 2.19 megabytes respectively! You can easily see the quality differences just by looking at them.
If you're using the AVI 1.0 format, remember that every frame must have the same format and quality if you're going with JPG compression. Also, each frame should have equal duration. Basically, the AVIOutputStream class allows you to quickly create new video files by simply specifying your desired format and frame rate.
In summary, AVIDemo is like a demo tool showcasing what you can do with the AVIOutputStream class in Java. That's its main purpose! Sometimes it seems so fast that you might think it's not doing anything at all!
