autoEdit2 is a cool open-source tool that works great with the IBM Speech to Text service. It also has two other neat transcription systems that you can use even when you’re offline: Gentle and pocketsphinx.
This handy utility lets you transcribe both audio and video files. Plus, it supports a bunch of languages like English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, and Chinese. That means no matter what language you're working with, autoEdit2 has got your back!
When you first launch autoEdit2, it asks for your IBM Watson Speech to Text service credentials—basically your username and password. Good news! IBM gives you a 30-day free trial for the service, but you'll need to sign up for a free IBM Bluemix account first.
The next step is super simple. Just head over to the IBM Bluemix Dashboard, create a new application service using the Speech to Text service found in their catalog. Once that's done, just grab your credentials from there!
No worries if you forget those details; autoEdit2 saves your IBM STT username and password between sessions. You only have to enter them once! If anything's off when you try to transcribe something, it'll let you know right away.
Using autoEdit2 is pretty straightforward. To start a new transcription, just load up your media file and choose which transcription system you'd like to use. You can even add short descriptions for each entry to keep things organized!
Once you've finished transcribing, you'll be able to review the text while playing back the video or audio. You can jump around different sections easily too! And don’t worry if there are mistakes; autoEdit2 lets you edit the transcription text so everything is spot on.
This app also features a paperedits function where all your past transcriptions are stored. You can mix video clips however you want and export everything as an EDL (edit decision list) or EDL JSON file.
In summary, autoEdit2 makes it easy for anyone to generate transcripts for their audio or video files while allowing edits based on the text content. This speeds up editing interviews or projects with storylines significantly!
You can export project edits into EDL files or extract captions as SRT files. Plus, saving entire transcripts as plain text documents is a breeze! Developers get extra perks too—they can export full transcripts as JSON or HTML5 media files.
