Auditron is a cool, open-source tool that helps you gather info about Macs through email and then reports the findings. It's totally free, which is always a plus!
This software is super handy for troubleshooting problems from afar or even doing remote audits in offices where Macs aren't being managed directly.
Using Auditron, the user kicks things off by launching the app. It runs a command called system_profiler, which collects all the system details. Then, it works with your mail app—like Mail.app or Entourage—to create an email with the System Profiler report attached. If your mailer isn’t recognized, no worries; you can save the profile somewhere safe instead.
You can easily generate reports using the File > Compare Results option. This feature scans a folder for any compressed SPX files and builds a report that you can export as a CSV file. So simple!
The first time you run Auditron, it will ask for the name and address of who should receive the report. This info gets saved in the app itself, so admins can share it without making users configure anything on their end.
If needed, you can also set up names and addresses by going to Auditrong > Preferences. It's all pretty straightforward!
