ACLr8 is a handy tool that helps you manage Access Control List (ACL) files on your Mac. These files hold permission info for certain items on your system. If an ACL file pops up unexpectedly, it can cause some errors in the Disk Utility app, making it take longer to repair disk permissions.
So, what's great about ACLr8? It's a Python-based command line application that quickly finds and removes those troublesome ACL files. Don't worry if you're not a tech whiz; using this software is pretty straightforward!
You'll run this program through the Apple Terminal app, but it's not complicated at all. Just download the package and unarchive it. Then double-click the file you get after that.
The script will automatically open Terminal and kick off the cleaning process for those ACL files. You might need to enter your admin passkey for your Mac during this step. After that, ACLr8 will go to work scanning for any unexpected ACLs without needing you to do anything else.
If you want to pause the scanning process, just hit Control + C on your keyboard anytime. Keep in mind that it might take a while depending on how many files are being checked! When everything's done, ACLr8 will tell you how many unexpected ACLs it found and whether everything went smoothly.
Usually, these "unexpected" ACL errors don't really mess with how well your Mac runs. But they can slow down disk permission repairs. That's why it's smart to run ACLr8 from time to time!
The best part? Even though ACLr8 runs from the command line, it's super user-friendly! Just fire up the utility, enter your admin password, and let it handle everything else.
