Accu Weather Forecast is a handy desktop widget that helps you check the weather. It pulls data from AccuWeather.com, but it does things a bit differently than most weather apps. Sometimes this can be a bit frustrating!
This software comes in two versions. One is an installer for Vista and XP users, while the other is a gadget file aimed at Windows 7 computers. Just a heads up, you will need Flash Player to make it work, but that's the only extra step before you can start using it.
Unlike other weather apps that let you choose your location, this widget is stuck on State College, PA. That means if you're somewhere else, tough luck! You can't change the location directly in the app.
If you want to see weather forecasts for different places, you'll have to hop over to AccuWeather.com. There, you can search for your area and get all the details about today’s weather or what’s coming up.
The widget doesn’t let you change temperature units or customize much else either. But don’t worry; if you're looking for more options, you can manage some settings directly on AccuWeather’s website.
A downside? The main window of the widget is filled with ads. Sure, there are ways to close them, but they keep popping back up!
This widget does come with a little search box where you can type in keywords and pull up Google results right in your default browser. It's not too bad!
So that wraps up what Accu Weather Forecast offers! Unfortunately, users have to do their own searches for weather info instead of having everything right at their fingertips, which isn't ideal for a standalone app.
